BACK TO THE WATER

Fabergé's escape to Dune Island proves an empty victory; he cannot man the stolen pirate's ship alone, and to truly save himself, he must form a mutually beneficial agreement with those few back on Heligoland not yet infected. But - ! Their plans to set sail are resolutely dashed by the fire of Napoleon's cannon, and the disease-ridden San Miguel nonetheless ventures to the source of the plague to find a cure. Elsewhere, the Spiritualists witness Kylaa's final unravelling after the death of Hanna and her stillborn child. SICK, FRANTIC, GLORIOUS

Whose fanaticism is steeped in true virtue, that of the Spiritualists or the Rationalists? It is of consequence to neither Fabergé nor Napoleon, both helplessly isolated; Kylaa nor Lex, both unhinged by faltering faith; nor Rogina and her new community, safely nestled on ...nearby Dune Island. But as a deadly sickness spreads across Heligoland, these differences will invariably give way as all are bound to share the most fundamental of concerns...

SWARM TO SEED

Refusing to integrate into Heligoland’s tribal community, Henri Fabergé instead offers his services as a wood chopper on the outskirts of the settlement. But the locals pay him mere notice, as sickness is spreading among the populace: a malady of doubt and insolence. As well, a very real plague has made its prescient presence known only to Doctor San Miguel. Amid the distractions of Napoleon’s threats of appropriation and Lex’s dwindling funds, Eldress Kylaa turns her attention to a summoning of cosmic prophecy, while on earth the weakest of her followers must summarily be turned out.

THE TURNING AND THE CHURNING

The sudden arrival of Napoleon Bonaparte is a jarring reminder of Heligoland's fragile place amidst a turbulent world. For now, the citizens can only hear the ringing of their own dirge: misguided appointments of tribal pride; quiet exploitation of an indigenous people; looming ill, borne from tamperings of egotistical scientific novelty. From a distance, confused Henri Faberge has picked apart the seams of Eldress Kylaa's eugenic plan, for she hides a mystic mission unknown to even her closest followers...
